1. The danger of splinters cannot be overlooked. I have had several splinters in my life and the pain is far worse than giving birth. (I await the comments with some interest. Lo, TG Ed.)
2. When hugging a tree, care must be taken not to dislodge lichen. It takes ages to grow and is as important as the arboreal host.
3. The enthusiastic embracing of coconut palms has led to two deaths and many severe injuries - a crash helmet is advised.
4. Roosting birds can also be problematic. Less painful but quite messy.
5. Hugging when naked is not to be encouraged - it looks very suspicious and can lead to a prison sentence, as well as being gross.
6. Approach your selected tree with caution. There are often hidden roots that can trip, dangerous snakes, nasty buzzy things that sting and pools of urine [or worse!].
If you still feel confident enough to try, start with a sapling and slowly work up to grander arboreal giants.
I also find that having a screaming tree is very useful. When feeling stressed, frustrated or just fed up, find a tree well away from the rest of humanity and tell it everything as hysterically as you like. It won't complain and it won't judge [and it won't help much either to be honest, except for just being there when you need it]. I have several.
