Wimbledon is underway despite the awful weather, the Spice Girls are back, the new Harry Potter film has just been released and the terrible Goddess has been in white knicker mode for several days.
I also have the prospect of getting a Nintendo Wii. The TG approves, as it will be a form of exercise and I approve because it's new, it's fun and I'll be able to aim my bow and arrow really accurately when playing Zelda.
Old people's homes are going to be a bit different for my generation and beyond. No more bingo or an outing to Hove for toasted tea cakes and a nice cup of tea, no more sing-a-longs to tunes from the 2nd world war and a talk from the WI about origami or how to ice a cake.
It'll be clan warfare on the games console, a session of karaoke to the sound of the Stranglers, visiting speakers talking about fractals, updates on digital photography and how to make your blog pay. We'll be giving history lessons on how to programme a video recorder, do weight lifting using old mobile phones and explain, to those that will listen, how, yes, we used to use a keyboard to input information into a computer, instead of the computer picking up the electrical impulses from our brains
Oh yes heady times indeed and getting headier all the time..
(So between now and eighty ? we're all going to a) actually learn how to programme a video recorder and then b) remember it? A likely story. Lo TG Ed.).
