I have been witnessing evolution since living in an apartment overlooking a marina.
Mr.Really Big Guy bought a motor launch early this season, that is parked directly below my balcony.
I have witnessed him learning that the wind tends to blow the boat around when trying to park.
I have watched him learn that it is better to use both engines in a skilled and controlled manner, than to use the steering wheel.
I have noticed he no longer departs the mooring with little or no regard for what other boats are doing.
He no longer approaches the berth at 100 knots and doesn't need to have at least six goes before he's in the right position.
I have just seen him come in at a steady 3 knots, look round to see what other people are doing and, using only his two engines, very skilfully position the boat and come alongside in a gentle and controlled fashion.
Who the heck am I going to laugh at now? - very disappointing.
(Hmmm, now let me think...... Lo,TG Ed).
