'..the cheery messages written on lavatory doors by 19th-century peasants competing for fertiliser from tourists : "' Ici on est bien' ('It's nice in here'), 'Ici on est mieux' ('It's nicer here').'
and
'..from Mme de Genlis's phrasebook for stagecoach travellers (which includes the lines "The wheels are on fire ... I am suffering greatly. I am going to vomit. Give me the vase").'
Now Sylvie is French (probably - you can never tell in Blogworld) and will be able to give me the inside information if any of this still holds true. I have used some lavatories in France which seemed quite normal but, being a chap who is always keen to help, particularly when it comes to recycling, are there still peasants in need of a little help from an Englishman? I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
The other question that springs to mind concerns being sick [throwing up, in the US]. Is it necessary to use a vase? Sometimes one might not be available and I would worry about breaking it, as whenever I vomit I'm usually three sheets to the wind.
Your help would be much appreciated young Sylvie - thank you.
