Ask most people what they would like to be able to do really brilliantly and they’d probably say play a musical instrument.
I was taught to play the piano when I was a kid – the old fashioned way, with lots of tutting and a crack over the knuckles with a ruler. Having little or no natural talent it was hard work but I managed, eventually, to reach a reasonable standard.

My highest claim to fame many years later, was to be able to play ‘The Entertainer’, having spent weeks ploughing through the sheet music and adapting the music to my chipolata sized fingers.
At that time anyone we visited who had a piano was subjected to a rendition – poor souls.

A few months ago I was helping Penfold pick up a new keyboard at a music store that was full of pianos. As he was filling out forms and hoping his credit card was strong enough, I sat down to see if the old magic was still there.
I can now announce the world is a safer place. I couldn’t even remember on which note to start. I resorted to playing some scales and listening very intently to the tone, shaking my head and looking a tad disappointed ……. in several ways.

(Never mind Peabrain, perhaps it will come back to you. {Avid readers,I can't tell you what a blessing this is.} LoTG Ed)
